WSS 3.0 stopped working after WSS 3.0 Update

WSS 3.0 stopped working after WSS 3.0 Update

Post by dominik.sc » Thu, 29 Mar 2007 17:03:26

Hi

today Microsoft delivered via Windows Update a WSS 3.0 Update. I
installed the update but it didn't finish. So i had to cancel it.
During the update i got around 20 to 40 of these errors:
ID 5084 and in MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE
with no further explanation.

So i restared the server.
During bootup i get these errors:
ID 17069, ID 17101, ID 17103, ID 17104, ID 17111, ID 17176 and more
of 17XYZ in MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE

And finally
ID 6800
with the explanation "No Access to the Database
'SharePoint_AdminContent_9eb1d28c-c6d7-452c-9dc2-857d0b995ac0' auf
'SBSW2K3\Microsoft##SSEE' because of missing Windows-Database
Signatures"
The error explanation is translated from german.

Now the WSS 3.0 aministrator and the site don't work anymore.

I know something went terribly wrong. Does someone know what went
wrong, and maybe how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Dominik

I have a PSS support call in and will post the results as soon as I get any.
After 1:45 on hold the tech answered my call and then disconnected me :(

Will call back after lunch.

Hi Steve,

Great! I wonder if they will have a solution for this problem...
Already tried a repair-install, run the wizard, but without any luck.

Marco.

Finaly I found a solution!

Thanks to Andrew Paternoster (somewhere else in this newsgroup he posted
this).

/quote:
I had the same problem. and i fixed it by going here
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
download the file that matches your OS. ie x32 or x64
If you try to run the file it will tell you the patch is already installed.
but run the file with "/extract" extrace the file to someware and run
"dw20w.msp"
Let it do its thing. It takes a while......Then presto. well as least for
me.
/end quote.

For me it worked. So I extracted the file and run the dw20w.msp. It took
about 45 minutes before the update finished. I can imagine that it depends
on the size of the environment.

Regards,
Marco.

I had tried that first early on in the problem yesterday. It didn't help.On
hold with PSS again today. Gave up after 5/12 hours on hold yesterday.

tried this one last time and let dw20w.msp run to completion without
touching anything. Yesterday I had killed it after an hour and 20 minutes
then ran it again. It ran the second time in a few minutes, but that didn't
solve it. Today I rebooted and then ran dw20w.msp again. It took about 1 1/2
hours to run. I had to reboot the server twice, but the site did come up
finally!

BTW, the hold time for PSS SharePoint is 5 to 8 hours. I guess they really
blundered on this patch!

Thanks to everyone in this post. I had the same problem, and after
banging my head on the server for 2 hours I found this thread. I
followed the steps and within 55 minutes the site was back up. I
appreciate the help!
