New MSSecure.XML Version 2004.10.21.0 Now Available

Post by Doug Neal » Sat, 23 Oct 2004 03:01:41

MSSECURE.XML Data Version 2004.10.12.0 (for use by MBSA 1.2 and SMS SUS
Feature Pack) was last modified today, October 21, 2004, and is now
available for all supported languages (English, French, German and
Japanese).

This release fully supports the same 10 bulletins as previously announced
2004.10.12.0 as noted below:

. MS04-029 (RFC on WinNT4 Server, TSE) - 873350
. MS04-030 (WebDav MSXML) - 824151
. MS04-031 (NetDDE) - 841533
. MS04-032 (Kernel) - 840987
. MS04-033 (MS Excel) - 886836. This bulletin is supported by MBSA and
MBSACLI for local scans only.
. MS04-034 (Compressed Folders) - 873376
. MS04-035 (SMTP) - 885881
. MS04-036 (NNTP) - 883935
. MS04-037 (Windows Shell) - 841356
. MS04-038 (Internet Explorer Cumulative patch) - 834707

Corrections to this version include:
o Corrected checksum values for Windows 2000 instances of SHLWAPI.DLL (to
prevent incorrect MS04-037 and MS04-038 warnings)
o IIS-based detection for MS04-030 instead of incorrect OS-based
detection in the previous release
o MS04-035 targeting for Exchange Server 2003 is correctly set to RTM -
not RTM and SP1 instances. Windows Server 2003 instance is unchanged (and
correct)
o Various minor improvements including fixed download locations, typos
and a single 'greater than expected' warning

^^ ^
Don't forget your unannounced cross-post: it's FOUR groups, plural.
And "FollowUp-To: microsoft.public.security.baseline_analyzer" is missing!

not amused

Hi

Each time MBSA is run it will attempt to connect to the Internet to
download the CAB file containing MSSecure.XML from Microsoft. If an
Internet connection is not available, the tool will look for a local
copy of the CAB/XML file in the tool installation folder.

For machines that never connect to the Internet, you can separately
download this file from here:

ENU (code page 1033): http://www.yqcomputer.com/
