Hi Lars,

Have you seen consistent behavior when sending to these specific domains?
Are you seening NDR's occur always to these specific domains or is it
sporadic? Have you tried turning on Message Archival on your IMS to see if
all messages are dropping the domain part of the SMTP address? To do this
take a look at the following article.

258557 XFOR: How to Record Internet-Bound Messages Sent by a Specified
Exchange
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

I wouldn't run archival for a long time as it causes a fairly hefty
performance hit and will fill up your drive if you deliver a lot of SMTP
mail, but you should get a better indication of what messages fail and
perhaps why. Please let us know what you find.

Best Regards,

Rich

I have now updated the server with sp6a and exchange with
sp4, but it still does not place domain name in message
ID. I also tried to change domain ind DNS settings, but
still without results.

The behavior is consistent, but only a few domains rejects
mails because of message-id errors. Some spam-filters also
rejects the mails from this server claiming it is spam.

I have not tried to turn on message archival, but i'm sure
the message-id always is without domain information,
because i have tried to send to severel different
mailservers and domains, and checked the recieved
mailheader.

Somehow the IMC just can't find its own domain information
after we have changed some network configurations.

Originaly the server was configured as proxy server with
two nic's, but recently we has disabled the proxy
function, removed one netcard and changed the IP of the
server. This might have confused the IMC

Hi -

The problem is somehow solved. The server has wins
installed and not DNS server installed. The DNS server is
the ISP's DNS.

When i tried to test the hostname using 'ping -a
10.0.0.2' it didnt return anything else than [10.0.0.2].
Then i created an entry in the hosts file for the local
IP and rebooted. This solved the problem.

I did try to set the servername in the hosts file earlier
without reboot, but a reboot was needed.

The only problem is (and it is not really a problem), why
do i need to put the hostname in the hosts file ?

Regards
Lars

Hello Lars,

I would suspect the firewall. It may corrupt the header.

Hello Lars,

Glad to see the problem is solved. You may want to post the DNS question to
the dedicate newsgroup "microsoft.public.win2000.dns". Discussed there,
this question may be better addressed.

Hi Lars!

Not sure without seeing the HOSTS file, but it sounds like an issue with name resolution that
you have found the answer for.

We look forward to working with you again here in the newsgroups!
