SQL Express Advanced

Post by LongbowSha » Fri, 20 Jun 2008 07:09:07

I have an instance of SQL Express 2005 with the Advanced Tools
installed on an XP machine. I can turn on full text in the DB
property window but there are no other nodes in the management studio
for full-text. There's no storage node or other menu/properties for
full-text. The fulltext service for this instance is running but I
don't see mssearch anywhere. Isn't that required? There is an Index
service loaded but no mssearch. What do you think I'm missing.

Thanks!

SQL 2005 no longer uses mssearch, but rather MSFTESQL and MSFTED.

The folders might not show up for Express, but can you full-text query your
tables?

First I have to set up the catalogues and tables. So you're saying it
works but I have to use scripting instead of the studio to set up the
cats and tables?

So is that correct? With SQL Express advanced you cannot use the
studio to manage the full-text info, I have to use scripts?

Correct. You have to use scripts.

There are a number of SQL Server 2005 Express learning videos at the
following site. Video 13 is about full-text indexing.
