SQL 7 Server: Moving One Database from One SQL Server to a Second SQL Server

SQL 7 Server: Moving One Database from One SQL Server to a Second SQL Server

I have a SQL database (named "AccCRM") loaded on one SQL
Server v7. This SQL Server has been installed with a
specific sort order.

I need to transfer AccCRM to another SQL Server v7 which
was installed with a different sort order (and has its own
SQL database (named "DTE").

I've been unable to do this: I cannot run a restore onto
this second SQL Server. I've been unable to do a
successful import onto this second SQL Server. There
doesn't seem to be a way around this except for
reinstalling the SQL Server in the same sort order AccCRM
was installed under. But that will affect my DTE
database.

So, my question is three-fold:

1) Is there a way around this w/out reinstalling the SQL
Server?

2) Is there a way to change the sort order value of my
second SQL Server so I can restore my AccCRM database onto
it that does not affect my DTE database?

3) Finally, can I install another instance of SQL Server
on this same box (different path, same server) with the
correct sort order configurations but not affect my DTE
database?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Charles

The answer to all your questions is YES, but only if you upgrade to SQL
Server 2000.

SQL Server 2000 allows you to have different databases with different sort
orders, SQL 7 does not. In SQL 7 you cannot change the sort order without
reinstalling.

SQL Server 2000 allows you to have different instances on the same machine,
each with a different sort order. With SQL 7, you can only have one instance
per machine.
