I am with you on this one.

I have not found any solution from microsoft other than obtaining an unreleased fix that will be available in the next SP. However, once the hot fix is applied, it cannot be backed off easily and we are basically S.O.L. until Microsoft formally addresses this issue

(a) don't use EM for DML/DDL operations (Query Analyzer is immune to this
specific problem).
