Upgrading SQL Server EXPRESS 2005 SP2 TO SQL Server for Workgroups 2005

When attempting to Upgrading SQL Server EXPRESS 2005 SP2 TO SQL Server
for Workgroups 2005, I have the following issue.

It keeps giving me an alert message saying ...
"To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a
different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005
Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1
parameter."
When I do that, I end up with the same message, but continue along.
During the next steps, it reports my current sql server version to be
9.2.3042 (apparently workgroups) but it actually is 9.0.3042
(Express).

I don't want to uninstall the old and reattache everything and setup
security again. Any options here??

PS - Dear Microsoft, if I want to upgrade a free product to one I
spent several hundreds of dollars for; just do it!
