Hello,

Thanks for reviewing my question. I installed Visual Studio 2005 with Sql
express and now would like to replace it with the actual SQL 2005 server. Do
I need to uninstall the whole VS 2005 package first?

Visual Studio installs the Express edition of SQL Server 2005. This is just
like downloading Express and installing outside of Visual Studio. Therefore,
it can be upgraded without uninstalling. You can find the matrix for which
Editions Express can be upgraded to at:

FYI, Express can be upgraded to these editions:
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
