Multiple SystemMailboxes {}

Does anyone know how this condition is created? Why and under what
circumstances would Exchange create more than one System Mailbox on a single
store?

I know how to clean up the situation, it is trivial and there are KB
articles on it.

I am just wondering WHY this would happen.
