Reading mailboxes from priv.edb file

I re-installed Exchange Server 5.5. I copied the MBDBDATA folder before
because I had not backed up my mailboxes.
After reinstalling the Exchange Server new PRIV.EDB and PUB.EDB files are
created. If I try to replace the files with my old and original EDB files,
then Exchange won't start.
Is there any way to read the EDB files?
and I don't want to loss the new information stored in my current PRIV.EDB
file, so how can I merge the old and new PRIV.EDB files?

Usually the DIR.EDB or directory file is why the old or original PRIV and PUB
files will not open. The directory keeps information about the files and the
exchange system and even though the file names are the same when you change
them the attributes are different. I am not totaly sure if you can do this
but you may want to try shutting down the exchange services and then take the
original dir.edb file along with the original priv and pub placing them in
their respective folders and see if it will start then. If you did not back
up the original dir.edb though this will not work.
