Migrating from Ex5.5 to Ex2003 with FE-BE Topology.

Migrating from Ex5.5 to Ex2003 with FE-BE Topology.

Need anybodys advice...

We just upgraded from an NT4 domain to Win2k3 AD by
having a PDC and BDC upgraded the BDC to a Win2K3 and
demoted the PDC which went very smooth with this proccess
it also kept the SID's,user accts, and everythingelse.

Now for the exchange part...

I have an Exch5.5 on an NT4 server but need to migrate to
Exch2003 server with FE-BE topology. I understand the
concept of the FE-BE topology. My questions are:

1. During the exchange setup of the FE server is it
joining an exsisting exhange organization or or new
organization?

2. On the BE server is it joining an exsisting exhange
organization or or new organization?

3. Is installing Exch 2003std for the FE and Exch
2003ent. for BE a good setup or like-like is the way to
go.

4. From which server does the migration take place FE or
BE server?

5. What type of connection agreement is used? I suppose
its inter-org connection.

Please advice...

Thanks.

1&2: All 3 servers should be in the same Org. Otherwise you can't move
mailboxes and OWA couldn't query AD for locations of users, etc. Same Org
for co-existence
3: 2003 Standard can be a FE, so this is up to you.
4: Take a look at q316886, it is written for 2000 but applies to 2003, it
covers all but the FE piece
5: Again, same org so it should be a 2 way intra - not inter - again see
q316886
