Recipient Policies - Filter membership based on domain membership?

Post by Shant Hoto » Sun, 25 Jan 2004 03:33:20

We are working to deploy Exchange 2000/2003 in our environment but are
having difficulty with recipient policies. We are currently running in
Exchange 2000 Native Mode. Our AD topology is 5 sites, 1 domain per site.
The 5 sites are spread accross 3 Administrative Groups (1 site in group 1, 1
site in group 2, 3 sites in group 3). Each administrative group has it's
own SMTP domain on the Internet. How do I set a recipient policy to filter
membership based on domain membership? I know I have to use Custom Search
and enter a custom LDAP query, but I'm not sure what the query string should
be.

Any thoughts?

So you want to assign email addresses to users based on what AD domain
they're in?
I'd be tempted to suggest that you made Mail Enabled Distribution
Groups and populated the groups by domains. You'll probably be doing
that anyway for other administrative type messages so why invent the
wheel again?

Hey Mark thanks for responding. I just had the chance to try this out and
it fits into our existing structure for users, but not for contacts &
groups. Each domain has their own "everybody in the domain" mailing group
that can be used for this, but contacts & groups are not, and I'd rather not
have to put them into groups just to make this work. Any other ideas?
