Can VS 2005 be installed and run side-by-side with VS 2003?

Yes, since they will create code that is managed by different framework
versions.

Yes it can. I have them both installed myself. However, there may be bugs,
it is just Beta 1, remember.

Maybe, but since it is beta code you should not install it in your main
"production" computer, unless you don care to reformat if things go
wrong....

IN theory, yes.

In reality, never install betaware on a critical machine.

Are you sure the problems you had aren't related to opening a 1.1 project in
2.0 and/or vice versa?

I use Virtual PC for this, it works pretty well once you have it setup
correctly and it doesnt affect your work machine. It basically creates
another machine in a file on your harddrive Its pretty cheap and is great
for testing. Another option is VMWare, last time I used it it was great too.

I wouldnt really recommned installing beta software on a production/work pc
otherwise

I still advise against installing both on a machine, although it works, in
theory.

If this is simply Framework issues on websites, you can use aspnet_regiis -s
on the webroot in question (for example the 1.1 root that is not working
under 2.0). There are tools created by others that allow for quick switching
(do not have URL ready for this).

An MSDN search will reveal how to use the aspnet_regiis tool with the script
mapping option (-s).

Yes, but I did find one issue. Don't run them at the same time. For some reason, it seem to get a higher amount of application exceptions and other failures. It hanged the VS 2005 IDE three times but since I quit running them at the same time and all seem to be fine.
