Remote Access Issues using VSS

Post by Chri » Thu, 01 Jan 2004 04:24:28

I need to know if anyone has any ideas or suggestions to
the following questions and problem with VSS.

Is it possible to speed up the process of fetching and
sending a file througn VPN. Currently it is taking about
5-10 minutes?

Is there something that can be changed in the
Server/Client Settings or any 3rd party software that
could help speed this up?

Thanks,

Chris

chris:

vss is not a true client-server application. on wan type connections, a
loss of connection during a vss operation can lead to a corrupt
sourcesafe database. additionally, as you've seen, the amount of
network communications required by sourcesafe can be quite a hindrance
on performance

sourceoffsite is a third party tool designed just for this scenario -
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ .

you can also read about sourceoffsite on the microsoft sourcesafe web
site - http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Jeff,

Thanks for the advice and information on this. While
waiting on a reply for this, I did check out the site you
mentioned and that is pretty much what I thought would
work best as well. The other thing is they want to keep
it to Microsoft product, no so much 3rd party software,
but they are open to using such a thing if it comes down
to that. I appreciate it, and if you come up with
anything else or anyone else does, please post it as I
check this group on a daily basis.
