Clients connecting to server

When a client opens Outlook, the application times saying
a server could not be found. The options are retry, work
offline or help. If they click retry, most of the time
they are connected. What can be done to eliminate the
initial delay? I have checked TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP
configurations among other things. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

did you verify that the client can ping the server by first name.
