In 5.5 there existed the capability of extracting
membership in a dist. by cutting and pasting. I haven't
found a location which allows that yet. Is there another
method in 2000 or a utility which facilitates this without
purchasing a 3rd party app.

If you use LDP or ADSIEDIT tool to access properties of the DL in Active
Directory, you can see that membership is in "members" attribute. So - if
you exported the DL out of AD (for example using LDIFDE and specifying the
DN of the DL) - you could parse the output for the members attribute.

In addition to Nino's excellent response, I've written a small script that
will dump the contents of your groups to text file. It can be found below.
Feel free to modify it to suit your needs, etc.
