path variable limit

path variable limit

I see that windows system path variable limits me to 1024 characters.
I have many applications that keep on adding their path to windows
PATH variable. I don't want to uninstall my applications and still continue
to use path system variable
Is there any way that we can increase this limit. I am using win 2K pro
