Mailbox Database Size

Hi:

Right now we are using POP3 email from webmail company.
I already setup with Exchange 2000 SP3 Standard Edition on Windows 2000 SP4
and ready to move to Exchange.

Since on Standard Edition, I have only the limitation of Database Size of 16
GB.
I would like to know how this size is being calculated ?
because some of my employees have the ".pst" file on their local computer
for more than 1 GB.

or Database size is calculated differently ?

A help will be appreciated.

thanks.

Rajiv

When you do the import, the PST size is roughly the what the user's mailbox
size will be. I would import only newer items and make sure you have mailbox
quotas in place. Also note that deleted item retention (which you should
enable) will take up space, too.

How many users do you have?

I have around 50 users...but 15 of them have mailbox ".pst" file around 1
GB and almost
5 users receive around 20MB of emails with attachment everyday.

You may want Enterprise Edition, if you don't think you can push mailbox
quotas on the users.
