Outlook 2003 cannot connect to Exchange 2000 but can connect to Exchange 2003

Outlook 2003 cannot connect to Exchange 2000 but can connect to Exchange 2003

I just installed Office 2003 from MSDN and I can connect
to an Exchange 2003 server with no problem. But when I
try to get connected to an Exchange 2000 server I receive
the following message:
Unable to open your default folders. The Microsoft
Exchange server is not available. Either there are
network problems or the Microsoft Exchange server is down
for maintenance.

I installed it on two different computers with the same
result.

Has anyone installed Outlook 2003 from MSDN and be able
to connect to an Exchange 2000 server?

Thanks

Ok, I was able to solve this problem.

You cannot have hardcoded TCP ports as described in KB article
Q270836.

Once I removed the registry key outlined in this article I was able to
connect. You must reboot the server.
